2. Click on the blue Edit Categories button:

3. Add a category titled "Extra Credit" and click the blue "Save" button

4. Click the blue Create Grade button:

5. Type the name of the Extra Credit you would like to add.

6. Select "Extra Credit" from the Category drop down menu.

7. Select the due date for the assignment.

8. Enter "0" for the point totals, then click the blue "Create" button:

9. In your gradebook, you will see a column appear in the Extra Credit category. If you add points to this column, the student will receive additional points to their grade total. If a student does not receive extra credit, they will not be penalized.

Option 2: Adding extra credit assignments

If your extra credit opportunities are separate assignments, follow these steps for easy set-up:

1. Navigate to the Assignments tab within the course page you're looking to create an extra credit assignment. Within the assignment tab, click the blue button (circled in green below) titled "Create Assignment".

2. Fill out the assignment details, including the name, category, description, due dates, etc. However, be sure to enter "0" for point totals. For example:

3. Click the blue "Create" button on the bottom of the pop-up window.

4. Now, if students receive a grade, the student will only receive additional points to their grade total. If a student does not complete the extra credit assignment, they will not be penalized.
